Last Sunday of Every Month
How It Works Group – Toronto
Through our own experience of working with others, many hopeless, suffering addicts lack the necessary power to “keep coming back” to meetings and fail to get sober or clean. Chronic relapsers do not have the luxury of working the steps slowly — they NEED POWER NOW, they cannot wait months to a year to work the steps — they’re barely hanging on as it is and it’s just a question of WHEN they are going to pick up again.
This a Big Book Sponsorship Workshop. We shall be interested to hear from those who are getting results from this book, particularly those who have commenced work with other addicts. We have no attitude of Holier Than Thou, nothing whatever except the sincere desire to be helpful; that there are no fees to pay, no axes to grind, no people to please, no lectures to be endured—these are the conditions we have found most effective. We have ceased fighting anything or anyone, even cocaine and all mind-altering substances. Love and tolerance of others is our code. We don’t talk down to an addict from any moral or spiritual hilltop; we simply lay out the kit of spiritual tools for your inspection and show others how they worked for us. We offer friendship and fellowship. If you want to get well we will do anything to help. To show other addicts precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this meeting…
It takes only four hours to learn how to work a 12 Step Program and a lifetime to practice it.

This workshop is for newcomers/beginners who want the original, undiluted 12 step program of the 1940’s when recovery rates were 50-75 per cent. This workshop is also for recovered members who want to work with others. Seating is limited.

I attended the 4 hr workshop today and I have a perception of AA, the steps, the Big Book and how working with another recovered addict can help to effectively deliver a solid message of recovery to a newcomer. This is must different that how it is presented in meetings and a lot of other studies. This appears to be the way it was done in the beginning by Bill W and Dr. Bob. I have to be more honest, open and willing to apply the principles of the program in my own life so that the message will be delivered in a practical way that a newcomer will understand. I know they must be honest, open and willing as well. I want to submit to God’s will for my life and ask Hom to give me the power and strength to do it daily. I will be attending more of these workshops.
The 12 steps in 4 hours workshop is simply one of the best workshops I ever attended in over two decades of recovery. Highly recommended to newcomers, as well as seasoned sponsors, and anybody in between. Amazing!
It’s Anne…food addict/codependent. I attended the Big Book Sponsorship workshop last Sunday afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and got A LOT out of it. I left there feeling very inspired and motivated, as well as validated in working my programs of recovery. Thank you for your service. It was so very powerful for me!!
One of the things that I heard on Sunday that truly impacted me was STAY AWAKE. I’m afraid of losing that inspiration and motivation, and falling back asleep…which, as you said, then leads to being active in our addiction again. The OA meeting that I attend is NOT a strong meeting…and the Alanon meetings are okay, but I don’t hear ANYONE at any of those meetings speaking in terms of working the program the way that it was spoken on Sunday. Most of the people in the Alanon meetings haven’t even worked a step four yet, and they’ve been in Alanon for years and YEARS!! When you referred to members wanting to be ‘gentle’ with newcomers, there are ROOMS FULL of those members in Alanon. I can’t even believe that you were able to host the workshop for a group of Alanon members!!! In the meetings that I attend, the Big Book is not considered “Conference Approved Literature” for alanon!!
I have been making good use of your 4 hours step format and am pleased to say the results have been excellent. These days I sail around New Zealand and have called into to some of the more remote towns to support the local AA.
The last town, Gisborne, gave me the opportunity to run the workshop for about 10 members, about half the local membership. AA in the town had really fallen onto a disorganised rut, apart from one lady who was a member of a PPG in France and was doing her best to keep things on track. Anyway the workshop went down a treat, and the effect was very apparent. The tone of the meetings changed completely, from petty dramas to life saving solutions. Almost everyone in the last few meetings I attended was sharing about their progress with the steps. It was amazing to watch.
Thanks and God Bless, Mike.
I’ve been taking Sharing Partners/Sponsees through the Steps for a several years now. Bar none yours is best for getting them through, quickly and with the least amount of hassle. Especially taking them through using email and the phone. We owe you a debt that can never be repaid.

Just wanted to thank you for the workshop today. You are very inspiring and a terrific speaker.
I appreciate you sharing your story and giving your time to help myself and others in need. — Allison
Thank you so much. You obviously put the relevant quotes together, and added the parenthetical questions, so certainly there is more to the work than what is already available in the Big Book taken as a whole. So I wanted to make sure you were OK with us utilizing this work you’ve done. We very much appreciate it.
In the food addiction world, there is a common theme of people following a food plan in order to be freed of the symptoms, but not getting to the step work to be free of the addictive mindset. I hope your work will help people move swiftly through the steps.
Is there a chance you could send it to me in Word format, such that we might specifically tweak it for food addiction?
Thanks!
Megan
You rock and so does your team for putting this on! — Vivian
I did two good 5th steps this week with my Priest . It worked, and helped me with my sobriety.
Also got a lot out of your workshop. First time in ten years that I kinda got the essence of step 4
So thanks and see you.
Good Morning Gentlemen!
I just wanted to thank you both for a wonderful workshop yesterday!
Your animated, energetic and compassionate approach to our beautiful spiritual program was perfect…I wouldn’t change a thing.
My sponsee and I got a lot out of the workshop and it opened up deeper and richer dialogue and understanding.
Thank you. – Irene
I came to your workshop today and it was such a valuable experience. Everyone should read the big book and get ‘booked’. I am calling Nicole to follow-up as I didn’t get to relay my inventory and she offered to listen. I was really moved by John’s story. It is a reminder to me that God is doing miracles everyday and between what his limitless capabilities and our own will and commitment to lead different lives, there is hope for everyone. Thank you for being frank throughout the day and again, I am so glad that I attended. This was a great start to 2012. – Charlene
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the session in January. My intention at this time is to again participate on February 28th. Please let me know if you have any new co-dependents or Al-anon family members and if so if you need “partners” for them.
You make it really easy for the newcomer to understand his/her problem.
I would like to thank you for the experience I received yesterday at the workshop. I learned a lot about the sponsor/sponsee relationship that I will use when I find someone to “book”. I chaired the meeting last night after the workshop and I felt like I was on fire!
